We have a regular customer here at KARM Stores in Alcoa. A little over a year ago, her visits begin to occur more frequently. I found out after several such conversations that her husband of 40+ years was dying, and twice a week someone came and stayed with him so she could run errands.
“I am supposed to be buying groceries and doing the things that need to be done. But, I always end up here talking with you and your staff. To me this is a place of rest and refueling for my week. When I am here, it is not about what I can do for someone else but it is spending time with good friends. “
Her husband passed away about 6 months ago. She still comes in every Thursday afternoon to spend time with her good friends at KARM Stores.
Just last week when we were talking, she shared that she had kept track of the meals she helped provide since her husband first got sick: 1,526 meals. “I also have another number: 102. That is the number of times an employee here has prayed for me.”
That is why I do what I do here at KARM Stores!
