It is officially fall in East Tennessee and that means one thing: Football!
Football is a big deal ’round these parts. Whether you’re sitting in the bleachers at your favorite high school game, or screaming with 100,000 of your closest friends in Neyland Stadium, the game is still the same. Your team can’t score a touchdown until there’s a kickoff.
At KARM & KARM Stores we’re kicking off four new projects. Each of these projects require volunteers to get our teams into the end zone. Are you ready to suit up and get in the game?
Kickoff #1: Berea
The Berea model has transformed KARM and opened a door to transform lives through work, learning and service. After food, shelter and other critical needs are met, Berea offers KARM guests a chance to take part in a life-changing process. This process combines Christian support with job skills, education, and community service. KARM guests who participate as Berea students experience this blend of work, learning, and service during a six- to nine-month formal program.
As volunteers, we want you to be some of the first to know about KARM’s adoption of the Berea model. You can find more about Berea at karm.org/berea.
Kickoff #2: Coats for the Cold
Coats for the Cold was a huge success in 2016. We distributed every single donated coat, totaling over 6,000 coats! Now it’s that time of year again – time to start collecting coats and preparing them for distribution. Volunteers are key in this! Donate your time to help sort, hang and rack donated coats between Oct 30th and Dec 9th.
- Coat collection dates: Oct 16th to Nov 11th
- Coat distribution dates: Nov 13th to Dec 9th
Kickoff #3: KARM Stores Bike Initiative
The goal of the KARM Stores Bike Initiative is to service and repair donated bikes. These bikes will be given away to children and adults in need of a bike in good working order. Distribution of these bikes takes place through our church and ministry partners. Volunteers with the Bike Initiative service bikes during 4-hour shifts at the Farragut KARM Stores location. (Training provided.) To volunteer with the Bike Initiative, sign up here.
Kickoff #4: Christmas Store setup
The Christmas Store will open in a few short weeks. That means we have a lot of work to do. Volunteers can assist in store setup Monday-Thursday 9 am-7 pm or Friday-Saturday 9 am-9 pm. Need a later shift? We can work with you. Visit the web site if you’re ready to help us Deck The Halls! Just select Christmas Store as your desired location.
