WHAT Now renamed the KARM Dragon Boat Festival, the most fun, unique cultural event featuring adrenaline-pumping action, dragon boat racing returns to Knoxville in 2012 for its 10th year. Teams rave about the excitement, friendly competition and community spirit surrouding the sport. Teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and steerer race in authentic Hong Kong-style, 46-foot-long dragon boats. All ages, skill levels and physiques can paddle, making it the ultimate team building sport, requiring synchronicity and finesse, more than power to win. WHEN AND WHERE 2012 Practices: Week of June 19-22 at the Cove WHY Win on and off the water by raising money for Knox Area Rescue Ministries. Last year, 47 teams raised $114,000 for KARM. This year we are working to provide 100,000 meals for the poor and needy who come to KARM.
