Shocked By God’s Love

Maurice’s Pain

No matter what he did, Maurice couldn’t erase the horrific memories of being abused as a child.

Running around with the wrong crowd didn’t work. Neither did pain pills and crack cocaine. Not even a mental breakdown that resulted in his being hospitalized for a lengthy period could make him forget how worthless he felt.

But Pastor Mike could.

One night while he was out ministering to the homeless, he told Maurice, “I just want you to know that God loves you.”

Maurice was shocked.

“Wow!” he remembers thinking. “Up to that point, I had never felt love before.”

Mike invited Maurice back to KARM that night, where the two of them talked for hours. Two weeks later, Maurice surrendered his life to Jesus and his life was instantly transformed.

The New Maurice

“It felt so good to turn loose of all that stuff I had been holding on to for years,” Maurice says.

Today, thanks to God’s mercy and your generosity, Maurice is a new man — physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

“I’m no longer strung out under a bridge,” he says. “I’m not sleeping on the sidewalk. It feels great! I used to be so full of hate that I was afraid to get close to people. Now I can go out on a limb because I know God is going to be there.”

Now, with KARM’s help, he’s found his purpose: Bringing Christ’s redeeming love to others living on the streets.

“I don’t judge people anymore, I just remind them someone cares,” he says. “I tell them, ‘Don’t lose hope. If I can turn my life around, so can YOU!’ ”

Maurice is celebrating new life because of your generous gifts. Together we can help others who come to KARM discover for themselves that because of Christ, there is always hope.
